Why 6.3: 690 hp through the rear wheels only, and Porsche didn't offer a manual on this generation — every ounce of engineering went into lap time, not romance. Porsche billed the result as the fastest Nürburgring lap ever set by a rear-wheel-drive production car.

The long version

Porsche moved the GT2 RS to PDK-only for the 991.2 generation, betting that a driver's left foot would run out of nerve before a dual-clutch gearbox ran out of ideas — a bet that paid off on the stopwatch: 6:47.3 around the Nordschleife in 2017, then 6:43.3 with the Manthey Performance Kit in 2021. That focus shows in the ownership pattern too. Unlike the manual 996 GT2 it descends from, which spent a lot of its life parked out of sheer respect, this one gets driven by people chasing their own lap time, not just the factory's. Values sagged for the first couple of years off a $293k sticker — a normal depreciation curve for any 911 — before the used market noticed how few clean, low-mileage cars were coming up and started bidding them past six figures, then past seven: one sold on Bring a Trailer in 2026 for $1 million. The widowmaker reputation is still earned honestly — RWD, no clutch to modulate the power, a chassis that punishes anyone who doesn't respect it — Porsche just handed the shifting to a computer that never gets nervous.
