2019 · 4.0L NA flat-6 from GT3, 502 hp · 6-speed manual · RWD
6.5 / 10
Involvement 9.0 / 10

Why 6.5: Porsche took the GT3’s 4.0L NA engine, put it in an open-top 991 with a six-speed manual, made 1,948 examples to honour the founding year, and charged a premium that guaranteed the allocation system would operate in full force. The driving experience is as close to pure as the 991 got.

The long version

The Speedster exists because enough people at Porsche and in the enthusiast community believed there should be a final, definitive expression of the 991 generation before the next architecture arrived. The Heritage Design package added brown leather and tweed trim that either looks perfect or deeply wrong depending on your reference frame, and the six-speed manual with a naturally aspirated 4.0L behind the rear axle is the version of the 911 engine note that makes people religious. Values climbed well above the €230,000 base price in the allocation chaos and have settled at a level that reflects genuine enthusiasm rather than speculative excess — most owners are holding, and the few that sell do so at a premium to new.
