Why 6.9: The last naturally aspirated Type R before turbos took over, and the only one Honda ever built as a four-door. Never sold in the US, but the K20A/helical-LSD combo is drawing import buyers who missed the EK9 and DC2 windows.

The long version

Honda built this as a sedan specifically because Japanese touring-car homologation rules wanted four doors, which makes it the odd shape out in a lineage otherwise defined by hatchbacks, and that oddity is exactly what is pulling import attention now that the earlier Type Rs have gotten expensive. The K20A revving to 8,400 rpm and a helical limited-slip front differential are the same formula that made the EK9 and DC2 legendary, just wrapped in a heavier, roomier body Honda never brought to America in any form. Values are still catching up to that history, which means the import buyers arriving now mostly want to drive it, not park it.
