Why 4.8: Still the front-drive benchmark: hand-ported head, 8,400 rpm, a chassis that shames modern metal. Auction money is building the glass case, but the track-day faithful haven't surrendered yet.

Sound

The B18C changes character completely when VTEC engages and screams to 8,400 rpm on little more than throttle bodies and a straight pipe. It ranks just under the S2000 because 1.8 litres gives it a thinner, harder edge than the F20C at the same revs.

Rear seatsNot available

DC2 production ended in 2001, a year before the US LATCH mandate (Sept 2002) and roughly five years before the EU's ISOFIX type-approval requirement; a Honda-Tech owner thread on fitting a baby seat in a DC2 describes seatbelt-only installation.

Front passenger seatNot available

No front-seat ISOFIX — a sports coupe with usable rear seats, from a production run that ended before any relevant child-seat mounting standard existed.

Early JDM-spec (1996-97) cars could be factory-ordered with the airbags deleted entirely as a weight-reduction option — there was never an on/off switch or sensing system on any DC2.

The long version

Auction results have pulled unmodified, low-mile examples into territory that would have been unthinkable to the people who autocrossed these on worn-out OEM tires fifteen years ago, and that split, preserved investment car versus beaten-up track tool, runs straight through the DC2 community rather than dividing neatly by owner type. Values have climbed roughly fivefold since 2005, with the steepest run happening after 2015, right when the track-day crowd started losing cars to garages instead of grip. No badges land here because the car is caught mid-transition: still driven hard by the faithful, increasingly priced like something you probably should not.
