The long version
Ferrari never marketed the manual gearbox as a going-away present, but that is what it turned out to be: the 458 that replaced this car in 2009 never offered three pedals again, making the F430's option-sheet checkbox retroactively historic. Most buyers ticked the F1 automated manual anyway, chasing lap-time bragging rights over engagement, which is why the gated cars command such a steep premium today. The F1 fleet, cheaper and more plentiful, still does the everyday miles the manual cars increasingly don't.
