Why 4.8: The Lotus 910 turbo four and unassisted steering deliver exactly the mid-engine feel the wedge promised, and 3,155 Turbo Esprits mean it's not fantastically rare. But 1980s Lotus electrics and trim earned a reputation that kept values near nothing for two decades — most surviving cars still carry the low-mileage habits of a used car nobody trusted.

Child seats · ISOFIX

Anywhere in the carNot available

Built before ISOFIX existed, so there are no anchor points at all. A child seat here is a seatbelt installation in the only passenger seat there is.

Derived from production years and seating layout, not a per-car source. ISOFIX was standardised as ISO 13216 in 1997, required on new EU model types from 2011 and on all new EU cars from 2014.

The long version

Colin Chapman's engineers got the part that mattered — mid-engine balance, unassisted steering, a chassis genuinely worthy of the Giugiaro wedge — and then wrapped it in hand-laid fiberglass panels and Lotus's notoriously unreliable 1980s electrics, the combination that has defined ownership of this car ever since. A white Turbo Esprit's ski-chase cameo in For Your Eyes Only sold plenty of posters, but the film fame never translated into showroom traffic strong enough to fund better build quality, and for two decades afterward these traded for used-hatchback money precisely because owners knew what they were buying into. That depressed pricing meant the survivors were driven by people who'd already made peace with the maintenance calendar, not collectors protecting an asset — Hagerty was still calling this 'a forgotten gem' in the late 2010s. Values have only started moving in the last five years, pulled up by the wider 1980s-supercar rediscovery, and the ownership pattern hasn't caught up to the new math: most owners still budget for the electrics the way earlier owners did, which keeps this closer to a used-Lotus reality than a garage-queen one.
