Involvement 8.3 / 10

Why 1.3: The oil crisis killed this before Nissan built past 197 — six months on sale, then gone, taking the GT-R nameplate with it for sixteen years. Scarcity this absolute means almost none of the survivors have turned a wheel in decades.

Sound

The same triple-carb S20 twin-cam six to 8,000 rpm, with the same hard induction howl and nothing modern in the way of it. But the Kenmeri is a heavier, better-trimmed car and emissions-era tuning dulled it slightly. A shade behind the Hakosuka on note alone.

Child seats · ISOFIX

Anywhere in the carNot available

Built before ISOFIX existed, so there are no anchor points at all. A child seat here is a seatbelt installation, and the belt geometry of the period was not designed with one in mind.

Derived from production years and seating layout, not a per-car source. ISOFIX was standardised as ISO 13216 in 1997, required on new EU model types from 2011 and on all new EU cars from 2014.

The long version

Six months of production and a global fuel crisis is the entire origin story here — Nissan built 197 before pulling the GT-R nameplate for the next sixteen years, and that abrupt ending is most of why this specific Skyline commands a premium over its Hakosuka predecessor. The S20 six is essentially unchanged, same racing pedigree, same high-revving character, but the ownership pool has shrunk to people who mostly know each other by name across Japan's collector circuit. A Kenmeri GT-R at a cars-and-coffee event reads less like a car showing up and more like a relic making a rare public appearance.
