Why 1.5: The last road car Bugatti will ever build around the quad-turbo W16, sold out at roughly €5 million before the reveal, to existing Chiron and Divo owners. One with zero miles on the clock has been advertised at $9.25 million — which is the whole ownership pattern stated as a number.

Sound

Bugatti moved the engine's ram intakes into the cockpit behind the headrests, and the fabric roof traps the result: eight litres of induction rumble on throttle, four wastegates whistling on lift, inches from your ears. Still no exhaust melody and still four turbos in the way — but this is the best the W16 ever sounded.

There aren't any — strict two-seater.

Front passenger seatVaries

The only position there is, so makers of this era equip it: expect a passenger-airbag cut-off (key switch or occupant sensing) as standard, because there is no rear row to point children to. Whether the seat itself carries ISOFIX anchors is maker-specific — Porsche bundles them with its child-seat preparation, Ferrari sold them as an option, others are belt-mount only with the airbag off.

Derived from production years and seating layout, not a per-car source. ISOFIX was standardised as ISO 13216 in 1997, required on new EU model types from 2011 and on all new EU cars from 2014.

The long version

Bugatti was explicit that the Mistral is not a Chiron with the roof cut off: the bodywork is entirely its own, from the four-element diagonal headlight strips to the arrow-shaped tail lamps, and the engine's ram-air intakes were relocated from the flanks into the cockpit, hidden behind the occupants' headrests, each one a bespoke carbon structure engineered to hold the car's weight in a rollover. In November 2024 it ran 453.91 km/h and became the fastest roadster ever built. None of that has much to do with what happens next. Ninety-nine cars, all pre-sold to clients who already had a Bugatti in the garage, at a price where the annual insurance is a mid-range saloon. The public evidence is a 0-mile example listed at nearly double its list price, and a marque whose recent history — Divo, Centodieci, Chiron Pur Sport — is a sequence of appreciating limited editions bought by the same few hundred collectors. This is the lowest Index score in the hypercar wing and it is not a judgement on the car, which is a genuinely extraordinary send-off for an engine nobody will build again. It is a judgement on what its owners do with it, which is almost nothing.
