2022–2025 · Dual motor, 610 hp · single-speed · xDrive AWD, 2,659 kg
6.8 / 10
Involvement 4.0 / 10

Why 6.8: 1,100 Nm, 3.8 seconds to 100 km/h, a 250 km/h limiter and a carbon-fibre-reinforced structure around the cabin that BMW inherited from the i3 programme. It weighs 2,659 kg, which is the number that decides how all the others feel.

Sound

The same Zimmer IconicSounds as the i5, and it does rise and layer convincingly as the 610 hp arrives. But 2.66 tonnes of insulated SUV makes near-silence the baseline, and a composition over silence is still silence. Level with the Taycan.

Rear seatsStandard

Two ISOFIX positions on the outer rear seats, the outer pair being the ones the standard covers.

Front passenger seatVaries

The rear anchors are the supported route — the manual points child seats there, and front-passenger ISOFIX is the exception rather than the rule. A belt-mounted seat up front needs the airbag off, and cars with a rear row don't always fit a deactivation switch, precisely because the rear seats exist.

Derived from production years and seating layout, not a per-car source. ISOFIX was standardised as ISO 13216 in 1997, required on new EU model types from 2011 and on all new EU cars from 2014.

The long version

The iX was BMW's most technically ambitious car of its generation and got discussed almost entirely as a styling argument. Underneath the face is a body structure with carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic in the side frame, roof rails and rear window aperture — the surviving useful idea from the i3 — plus a 111.5 kWh battery, rear-wheel steering, air suspension and a cabin that measurably out-quiets the 7 Series it shared showrooms with. The M60 adds a much larger front motor for 610 hp and 1,100 Nm, and the honest verdict is that it accelerates rather than handles: rear steering makes it agile at parking speeds and stable at high ones, and the mass is contained rather than disguised. Owners treat it as what it is, a very fast and very comfortable family SUV, so the mileage is real; the six-figure list price and steep depreciation mean the flip factor is middling rather than good. BMW ended iX M60 production in 2025 with the facelifted range, and the early cars have now fallen far enough that they read as a lot of engineering per dollar.
