BMW 1M Coupé
Why 4.8: One year, one spec, M3 hardware in a shorter box — the accidental legend BMW never repeated. Values doubled and the collector fraction grows, but the ones outside bubbles still get exercised properly.

Sound
The N54 has real straight-six smoothness and the 1M's shorter exhaust path lets a little more through than the 135i's. But this is the flattest engine BMW ever put in an M car, twin-turbocharged and finished at 7,000. Bought for the chassis, not this.
6-cylinder · turbocharged · 7,000 rpm redline · rated 6.0 / 10 for engine sound

Child seats · ISOFIX
Standard on the outer rear seats; owners consistently report fitting Maxi-Cosi and similar bases there, with the two-door body being the real obstacle, not the hardware.
Factory option (BMW code SA470) added ISOFIX at the front passenger seat bundled with a key-operated airbag cutoff — present only if it was ordered.
The airbag cutoff only comes bundled with the front-ISOFIX option — you don't get one without the other.

The long version
Dealers struggled to move these at launch — a stripped two-door with M3 running gear and none of the M3's back seat practicality was a hard sell during a recession — and the buyers who took the discount then are disproportionately the ones still driving theirs today, having bought it as a car rather than a bet. The generation that arrived once values started climbing skews more toward preservation, wheels wrapped, miles rationed. Both groups agree on the chassis; they just disagree about what it is for now that the badge has become collectible.
