Why 3.3: Ferrari's first plug-in hybrid flagship is genuinely revolutionary on paper — 986hp, AWD, a Formula 1-derived hybrid system — but the complexity that makes it fast also makes it feel synthetic next to the naturally aspirated Ferraris a generation before it. Early depreciation reflected buyer uncertainty about the tech as much as it reflected any real flaw.

Sound

The 4.0 turbo V8 is sharper than most forced-induction engines and still spins to 8,000 rpm. But two turbos and a particulate filter mute it, and the hybrid system means it frequently pulls away in silence — the least characterful noise Ferrari currently sells.

Rear seatsNot available

There aren't any — strict two-seater.

Front passenger seatOptional

A front child seat is factory-sanctioned enough that Ferrari ran a 2023 recall on 13 early cars over it: airbag deployment on the standard 'size M' passenger seat could contact an installed child seat, remedied by fitting the larger 'size L' seat.

The recall implies the airbag does deploy with a child seat fitted — this isn't the auto-suppressing BabySmart behavior of the 458/F12 generation, or it didn't work as one on the affected cars.

The long version

SF90 buyers split roughly into two camps: early adopters who wanted to own the 'first' of something Ferrari does — first hybrid, first sub-2.5-second flagship — and a second wave buying it once the initial value dip made it look like a bargain next to the 488 Pista and F8. The plug-in hybrid system technically enables silent EV-mode errands, a genuinely daily-use capability no naturally aspirated Ferrari before it had, but few owners actually plug it in regularly; most just run it as a very fast, very heavy petrol car. Values dipped hard in the first two years as the market digested a Ferrari with a charge port, then began recovering as the SF90 established itself as the flagship rather than a transitional experiment. It is used more than a Monza or Chiron, and tracked more than either, but the hybrid hardware's added weight and complexity keep it from full-throated enthusiast-favorite status.
