BMW Z3 M Coupé
Why 5.0: Welding a shooting-brake roof onto the Z3 roadster made the shell roughly 2.6 times stiffer in torsion, which turned a soft convertible into a genuine sports car. 6,291 built across four years and three engines, and the market needed two decades to understand what it had been handed.

Sound
The final cars carried the E46 M3's S54 in a short, hard-panelled shooting brake with almost nothing between the engine and the boot, so the six sounds closer and angrier than it does in the saloon. The same 7,900 rpm limit, and the same intensity-over-melody cap.
6-cylinder · naturally aspirated · 7,900 rpm redline · rated 8.0 / 10 for engine sound

Child seats · ISOFIX
There aren't any — strict two-seater.
The only position there is — and the weak point of this era. Airbag cut-off switches only became routine in the mid-2000s; many of these cars have none from the factory, which rules out a rear-facing seat entirely unless a dealer-fitted deactivation was installed. Forward-facing on the belt, seat slid fully back, is what the period manuals allow.
Derived from production years and seating layout, not a per-car source. ISOFIX was standardised as ISO 13216 in 1997, required on new EU model types from 2011 and on all new EU cars from 2014.
The long version
The M Coupé started as an out-of-hours project. Burkhard Göschel's engineers believed the Z3 roadster's structure was the thing holding the car back, built a fixed hatchback roof to prove it, and then sold the idea to the board on the grounds that it needed almost no new tooling. What came out inherited M3 running gear — S50B32 in Europe, the detuned S52 in North America, and the S54 for the final 2001–2002 cars — inside a body about 2.6 times stiffer in torsion than the roadster, on a short wheelbase with a wide rear track. It drives the way that reads: enormous grip, then a very quick exit if you lift mid-corner. Contemporary reviews were polite rather than warm, and to most showroom visitors it simply looked like a mistake, so 6,291 were built and that was that. Prices bottomed near roadster money around 2010. The market has since decided the clownshoe was a landmark, and good S54 cars now trade for several times their list price — which is why the mileage figures are the weakest thing about it.
