Why no score yet: A beloved nameplate returns as a hybrid coupe with simulated shifts and no manual. Honda's involvement engineering is real — whether buyers drive it or dress in it will decide the score.

The long version

At GTI money with a hybrid drivetrain and no clutch pedal, this reads like a car built for the commute more than the canyon — closer in spirit to a comfortable coupe than to the Type R crowd it'll get cross-shopped against. The nameplate carries three decades of goodwill from owners who drove the originals hard, and some of that crowd will buy one on faith regardless of what the badge actually is this time. Whether it ends up daily-driven like the GR86 or admired-then-ignored depends on how the simulated engagement feels once people who remember the real thing get behind the wheel.
